UK Visa Applications from Jamaica Increase
Tuesday, June 05, 2012
The British High Commission has recently report an increase of 30 percent in UK visa applications from Jamaica on the corresponding period last year.
In Jamaica, there are about 11,000 UK visa applications processed by The High Commission per year. This year Jamaicans are applying earlier than usual for their summer trip to Britain due to the 2012 Olympics, according to deputy high commissioner to Jamaica, Graham Glover.
"Only a small proportion of applicants (under 10 percent) have said directly that they have Olympic tickets and will be spectators at the Games", he said.
Many visa applicants said that they not only want to take in the surrounding atmosphere of the host nation at Games' time but also visit with their family and friends living in the UK.
"We are pleased to say that visa processing times are also still within our global target of over 90 percent of applications decided within 15 working days."
The deputy high commissioner to Jamaica also encourage applicants to apply now, no matter what date in the summer they plan to travel to the UK, the visas would be post-dated to the time of travel.
