UK Launches New Visa Application Service in East MalaysiaTuesday, August 07, 2012
A new UK visa application service has been launched in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu for UK visa applicants in East Malaysia to lodge their visa application and provide their biometric information (fingerprints and digital photograph) this summer. On August 6, 2012 the UK Border Agency (UKBA) introduced a Mobile Biometric Clinic at the British Council offices in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. According to the British High Commission's announcement, the clinics will run once a week on Saturday mornings in Kota Kinabalu and Friday mornings in Kuching from August 17 until the end of September 2012. UK visa applicants pay an additional RM600 per application to visit the clinics, which includes the cost of sending the application by courier to Kuala Lumpur and returning it to the applicant's home address once processed. Thanks to the new mobile clinics, it will be more convenient for those applying for a UK visa during the busy peak period as they will not have to travel to Kuala Lumpur to lodge their visa application and provide biometric information. "The new mobile clinics are part of a wider programme to enhance the UK visa customer experience. Not only will the mobile clinics be of tremendous benefit to East Malaysian customers, sparing the need for travel to Kuala Lumpur, they will also reduce the pressure on the visa application centre in Kuala Lumpur which accepts visa applications from thousands of students over the summer months," Ed Mackie, UK Border Agency’s Regional Manager for East Asia said. However, East Malaysians will still have the option of lodging their application and providing biometrics at the visa application centre in Kuala Lumpur.
