July 20, 2012, the British Ambassador to Nepal, John Tucknott officially opened a new UK visa application centre at Narayan Chaur, Naxal in Kathmandu.
Simon Dadd, Regional Manager, UK Border Agency (UKBA) - South Asia, and Kathryn Lefevre, General Manager, UK Operations - South Asia, and VFS Global joined the Ambassador at the inauguration. The Ambassador emphasized the role of immigration in the UK-Nepal relationship and promised that the new UK visa operation would support Nepalese people wishing to apply for UK visas.
In 2011, the UK Border Agency processed 12,500 visas in Nepal and the approval rate reached 80 percent. Starting from June 25, 2012, the new visa application centre will send visa applications to the UKBA in New Delhi to be processed.
The UKBA intends to grant visas as quickly as possible. Currently, the published visa processing time is 15 working days for 90 percent of short-term UK visas.
