UK Announces Express Business Visas for Bangladeshi CompaniesTuesday, February 14, 2012
February 12, 2012, Bangladeshi companies with strong ties to the UK will soon benefit from express business visa services, according to UK high commissioner to Dhaka. UK high commissioner to Dhaka, Robert Winnington Gibson indicated that Bangladeshi companies could join the program provided that they could show their strong business links with the UK. "It will be a charged-for premium service under which the processing of applications for business visitor visas and Tier 2 skilled worker visas will be expedited," the high commissioner added. Mr. Gibson also explained that this program would help ease the burden on business between the UK and Bangladesh so that the two countries could develop a better trade relationship. The commissioner also emphasized the importance of removing barriers for UK businesses in Bangladesh. Currently the UK is the largest cumulative investor in Bangladesh, with approximately £2 billion worth of investment projects. It is also estimated that more than 60 UK companies are operating successfully in the cities of Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna and Sylhet. "We are now the third single largest destination for Bangladesh's exports and our bilateral trade has grown by some 40 per cent between 2005 and 2011," said the commissioner.
